The new TGFT/Spellbinder - Nowhere Boys

Post by Bobby K » 03 Aug 2021, 19:35

Hi everyone,

There's another awesome Australian children's TV show called Nowhere Boys. It borrows concepts and themes from both TGFT and Spellbinder, but to a more modern time (set around 2013-2018).

It explores science fiction and fantasy elments. The script writing is very clever and, the pace is very good. It's 13 episodes to a season, not the 26 we had for Spellbinder (unfortunately!) but Nowhere Boys does go to four seasons (two are feature length episodes).

Has anyone watched Nowhere Boys? :)

Hi Bobby,

Thanks a lot for your message. I haven't watched Nowhere Boys yet but it seems I really should do it. :) I've just watched its trailer, and it's quite intriguing.

Thanks for letting us know about this show, Bobby! 🙂 I just saw the trailer on YouTube and it looks really, really good, and they have chosen good actors!

Immediately I saw similarities with Spellbinder- the school trip in the first Spellbinder episode, and also the Nowhere Boys characters finding themselves in alternative realities just like Josh and Kathy did in the second Spellbinder series! 🙂

The writers of this show most DEFINITELY watched Spellbinder, I could see that just from the trailer 😄😄😄 Perhaps they watched it when they were kids and it inspired them to make this show!

I think Nowhere Boys might be on BBC iPlayer so I can watch it in the UK. Thanks again! 🙂

Hi Bobby,

No, I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet as I’ve been very busy over the past month 🙂 But I will let you know my thoughts about it when I do.

I also hope to get back into my TGFT fan art again soon!
